At a government-run daycare center, an Anganwadi worker uses Rocket Learning’s WhatsApp-based lessons to spark early learning.
Rocket Learning (RL) is an organization that directly serves daycare workers in government-run daycare centers, as well as parents of children between the ages of 3 and 6 who attend these centers. Its mission is to provide early childhood education (ECE) to children in underserved communities, ensuring they develop the foundational cognitive and social skills necessary for future learning. To achieve this, Rocket Learning partners with state governments, integrating its solutions into the public daycare system in ways that are both scalable and sustainable.
The organization delivers accessible, science-based content to both daycare workers and parents via WhatsApp. These materials consist of concise, real-life activities that are tailored to children’s developmental stages, helping foster play-based learning at home and in the classroom. The daycare workers, commonly referred to as Anganwadi workers (AWWs), play a pivotal role in this model. Before they begin facilitating learning for parents and children, these workers undergo digital training through YouTube. This training equips them to lead WhatsApp groups and guide parents in effectively using the educational activities provided by Rocket Learning.
Interactions between parents and AWWs in the WhatsApp groups are strong, but RL currently doesn’t know how each child is doing in terms of learning level and this prevents tailoring learning experiences to each child individually. To address this, RL aims to establish a two-way feedback system that provides real-time awareness of each child’s performance, enabling the creation of personalized learning journeys.
RL plans to introduce a generative AI-powered Personalized Development Coach (PDC) for parents within the accelerator, followed by a Smart Teaching Assistant (STA) for daycare workers. Both tools will use conversational AI capabilities, drawing on separate datasets for parents and teachers, to provide fully personalized lesson plans and activities. The PDC and STA will complement the existing WhatsApp groups. Crucially, the PDC and STA will be trained to prioritize safety and effectiveness, ensuring that the content they produce supports healthy child development.
The new conversation system will be able to share content through various formats—text, audio, images, and videos—in local languages and contexts, making it more accessible to families in low-resource settings. At a weekly cadence, the conversational bots will provide activities covering essential cognitive and learning areas for children aged 3 to 8, including socioemotional learning, motor skills, executive function, pre-numeracy, and pre-literacy. It will also monitor progress and engagement, allowing for rapid adjustments and improvements to the lesson plans.
The PDC will be a conversational coach that supports parents by generating personalized learning journeys in real time. Key features of the PDC will include:
Personalized learning is associated with improved cognitive development and enhanced school readiness. By offering custom-tailored learning experiences at scale, RL anticipates:
